Income Tax Assistance Site opens January 25, 2010 - 1/22/2010

Monday, January 25, 2010 will mark the start of the Indian Center's fourth year as a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site.

Over 200 returns were e-filed at no cost to the taxpayers through the Indian Center in 2009.  By e-filing and using direct deposit, taxpayers may receive their refunds in about 10 days.  In most cases, mailing a paper check will only add a couple days to processing.  The Indian Center's hours of tax preparation will be primarily from 10am to 4pm Monday through Friday.  Preparers must train and re-certify each year and work as volunteers, receiving no compensation from the IRS or the individual taxpayer.

Clients may call Jacinda in the Family Needs Department at 402.438.5231, extension 105 to make an appointment or with questions about the program.  Taxpayers should bring their 2009 income tax return and Social Security cards for all dependents claimed.  We regret to report that we will be unable to file any returns with out-of-state income effective this year due to regulations protecting volunteer preparers.
